When you ask most people how they feel about change, they will respond with Oh no! I hate it or I am scared of it. Or they come up with those ancient slogans like, ‘If it ain’t broke why change it?’ or ‘Why rock the boat?’ And yes, perhaps this works with your faithful old Volkswagen or a coffee pot with sentimental attachments. But in business and human relationships, change can be a beautiful and healthy thing. Let’s get down to understanding The Magic of Change.

-Change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end – Robin Sharma

Is it really a negative trait to be changeable? Isn’t it a natural ongoing occurrence? Isn’t it part of the cycle of life and death? Sometimes, I think we resist change because we are filled with contradictory paradigms. Change takes us into the unknown, the uncertain and the roller coast ride of shaky experiences. Then, we enter the realm of loss, that big garden full of thorns and spikes. The place where we concentrate on what we will lose and lose out on. And we convince ourselves to make do with what we have, make the best of it and just get on with it. Suddenly, change becomes this big monster that we must avoid at all costs.

As we grow, we change and develop, we re-create new ways of expressing ourselves. We learn new approaches and new practises to put our message across. And again, this all changes as we acquire more knowledge. As in nature and in life, nothing stays the same, it is always moving forwards, sideways or expanding in some direction. We know that change for change sake is not necessary but sometimes things do move fast. Circumstances push us to make changes, new inventions, political and financial challenges often force us to make changes. In fact, we are surrounded by change.

-Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change – Jim Rohn

Upgrade, update, revise, re-vamp, re-visit,  re-invent, re-fresh, re-create, elaborate, tweak.

All these phrases and more can lead you to recognise the magic of change. We are capable of changing our minds, but instead of seeing this as a weakness, often attached to women, let’s look at this as showing flexibility, being open to a new vision, a new version. Let’s see it as keeping an open mind and ready to listen to another step, style or system.
As speakers and writers it is important to keep an eye on what’s new, what’s current, whats in fashion, what’s next and topical. These are the changes, the opportunities we will use to get the visibility we want and need. To help us to Step Up & Stand Out.
